JUNIATA 73, CASE 67...
HUNTINGDON, PA (January 5, 2006) - Despite a game-high and season-high 21 points from Case Western Reserve sophomore center Mason Conrad - pictured (Tarpon Springs, FL), the Spartans fell to the Juniata College Eagles 73-67 this evening in Huntingdon, PA. With the loss, Case drops to 8-3 on the season while the Eagles improve to 7-6 with their second straight victory. The Spartans open up University Athletic Association play this Saturday in Atlanta, GA against Emory University. 
The first half saw the lead change hands seven times with Juniata holding a four-point advantage, 32-28 at halftime. Juniata's Aaron Chamberlain (Wood, PA) led all scorers with eight points in the first period. Case out-rebounded the Eagles 26-14 in the first 20 minutes, but Juniata was 13-33 from the field (4-12 from three-point range) while the Spartans made 12 of 30 shots and was only 2-of-7 from behind the arc.
The second half was played as tightly as the first with the lead changing eight more times. Case battled back from as much as a nine-point deficit at the 13:26 mark of the second period to take the lead. Spartan freshman Steve Young (St. Louis, MO) hit a three-pointer to give Case the advantage 60-58 with just 3:12 remaining. Juniata however, out-scored the Spartans 15-7 over the final minutes to seal the victory for the Eagles. Juniata's Travis Boyd (Barree, PA) hit two back-to-back three-pointers down the stretch and finished with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.
Conrad led the way for Case as he hit 10 of 19 shots for the Spartans. Senior Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) added nine points and junior Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH) grabbed 10 rebounds for the Spartans. For the Eagles, Chris Jasiota (Oil City, PA) scored 12 points while Brian Cannon (Fallston, MD) and Chamberlain each added 11 points.
