CASE 135, WESTMINSTER 120...
NEW WILMINGTON, PA (November 27, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University senior guard Funso Lafe (Chesterland, OH-pictured), a local Hawken graduate, scored a career high 39 points tonight as the Spartans handed Westminster College (1-3) their third straight loss 135-120 on the road. 
Case, whose 135 points was a school record, hasn't had this good of start (3-1) since 1990 when they won their first four. For the third consecutive year this game has broken the 100 point mark with Westminster coming out on top the previous two, 111-95 in 2003-04 and 113-109 in 2004-05.
The Spartans next host Hiram College this Wednesday in the Veale Center at 7:30 p.m.
Westminster attempted 62 three-pointers in the game (21-62) compared to Case's four (3-4). The Spartans, who led 61-57 at the half, shot 67 percent (54-81) from the field and the Titans just 40 percent (42-104). Case out rebounded Westminster 60 to 46 on the night.
Lafe and junior guard Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH) combined for 36 of the Spartans points in the first half as the team shot a whopping 69 percent (24-35) from the field. Cannan, who recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds, finished the game with a career high 34 points. The Spartans had two other players with double-doubles. Senior forward Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) had 12 rebounds and 11 points and senior guard Richard Mullen (Columbus, OH) 10 rebounds and 16 points.
The last time the game was close was at the 7:59 mark in the second half when Case led by just six, 99-93.
