CASE 78 , PSU ALTOONA 72...
CLEVELAND, OH (November 18, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University (1-0) sophomore center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL - pictured) scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds as the Spartans came from behind to defeat PSU-Altoona 78-72 in the opening night of the Case Alumni Association Tip-Off Tournament at the Veale Center.
Case will play Bethany College in the championship game tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. Adrian College will face Altoona in the consolation game at 2:00 p.m.
Altoona took a 41-33 lead into the half by having three players in double digits in just the first 20 minutes. The Lions shot 58.3% (14-24) from the field and junior guard Tyler Franklin (Altoona, PA) had 13 of his game high 29 points. Case out-rebounded Altoona 20-15 in the half and 43-32 in the game.
Case recovered from the field in the second half making 14 of 27 (51.9%) as Altoona cooled off (13-32, 40.6%). The Lions led 56-55 with just under 10 minutes (9:23) left in the game, but the Spartans would out-score them 23-16 down the stretch to win their 2005-06 opener.
Case senior forward Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) added 16 points and 9 rebounds and freshman forward Tyler Rodriguez (Colleyville, TX) added 9 rebounds.
