CLEVELAND, OH (February 23, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University freshman guard Jeremy Sallee (Hamilton, OH) scored a game high 22 points tonight on 9 of 18 shooting as the Spartans dropped a University Athletic Association game to Carnegie Mellon University 87-80 in the Veale Center . Sallee added five assists.
The Spartan hits the boards in the first half out rebounding the Tartans 22-14. Case freshman center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL) grabbed 6 of his career/game high 12 rebounds in the first 20 minutes, finishing the game with a double-double, adding 20 points. Case led 37-35 at the half.
Carnegie Mellon reversed things in the second half, out rebounding Case 27-22 in the last 20 minutes as the Spartans shot just 37.8 percent (14-37) from the field. The Tartans jumped out to a 51-41 lead in the second half by outscoring Case 16-4 in the first five minutes to win their fourth straight.
Spartan junior forward Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) added 19 points and 6 rebounds. Carnegie Mellon had four players in double digits led by junior forward Clayton Barlow-Wilcox's (Brookline, MA) 21.
Case falls to 5-19 overall and 1-12 in the UAA. They place their last regular season game this Saturday in Atlanta against Emory University at 3:00 p.m. Carnegie Mellon improves to 18-5 and 10-3.
