CLEVELAND, OH (February 11, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University junior forward Carson Oren ( South Bend , IN ) scored a team high 26 points tonight in the Spartans 102-71 loss to the visiting University of Chicago in a University Athletic Association contest at the Veale Center . Oren also grabbed a game high 8 rebounds.
Case falls to 5-15 and 1-8 in the UAA and the Maroons improve to 10-11 and 6-4. The Spartans host Washington University Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
Chicago dominated the boards in the first half out rebounding Case 24-14. The Maroons shot 53.8 percent (21-39) from the field in the first 20 minutes compared to the Spartans 40.0 percent (12-30) and Chicago led 51-29 at the break. Oren went 5 of 9 from the field (10-19 in the game) in the half, including 2 of 2 from behind the arc (3-4 in the game) for 12 points.
Things got worse for Case shooting wise in the second half. The Spartan shot 35.3 percent (12-34, 37.5 percent for the game). Chicago remained consistent, shooting 53.6 percent (15-28) in the last 20 minutes (53.7 for the game) as sophomore guard Jesse Meyer scored 22 of his game high 33 points in the half. The Maroons out rebounded Case 45-33 in the game.
Spartans freshman guard Jeremy Sallee ( Hamilton , OH ) added 9 points and 4 assists.
