ROCHESTER 87, CASE 72 ...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 28, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University junior forward Carson Oren ( South Bend , IN ) went four-of-five from behind the arc, scoring a team high 19 points, but the Spartans lost a University Athletic Association home game 87-72 to the University of Rochester .
Case drops their fourth straight and falls to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in the UAA while the Yellow Jackets improve to 14-3 and 5-1. The Spartans host Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday in the Veale Center at 1:00 p.m.
Case led for almost the first seven minutes of the contest, but lost their lead for good at the 12:11 mark in the first half when Rochester went up 15-13 via a three-pointer. Both teams shot poorly from the field in the first half, Case 33.3 percent (10-30) and Rochester 28.9 percent (11-38). The Yellow Jackets led 32-25 at the intermission.
Both teams improved their shooting in the second half (Case – 59.3% & Rochester 45.7%), but Rochester hit the boards, out rebounding the Spartans 25-11 in the last 20 minutes and 52-33 for the game. Yellow Jacket senior forward Seth Hauben ( Newton , MA ) grabbed 12 of his game high 22 rebounds and senior guard Gabe Perez ( Corpus Christi , TX ) scored 14 of his game high 24 points in the second half. Hauben also scored 22 points on the night as Rochester had five players score in double digits.
For Case sophomore guard Matt Cannan ( Dublin , OH ) had 15 points and freshman center Mason Conrad ( Tarpon Springs , FL ) added 13 on the night.
