CASE 76, WASHINGTON 74...
ST. LOUIS , MO (January 14, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University freshman center Conrad Mason (Tarpon Springs, FL) led four Case players in double digits with a career/game high 21 points as the Spartans won a University Athletic Association game on the road tonight 76-74 over Washington University. Mason added 10 rebounds.
Case led 41-34 at the half by shooting 51.4 percent from the field (18-35), including 4 of 8 from behind the arc. Spartan junior guard Funso Lafe (Chesterland , OH) had 11 of his 18 total points in the first 20 minutes. Case out rebounded the Bears 48-41 in the contest and despite turning the ball over 18 times, compared to Washington's nine, posted their third win in four games.
Spartan junior guard Richard Mullen (Columbus , OH) added 13 points and freshman guard Jeremy Sallee (Hamilton , OH) 12. Case junior guard Carson Oren grabbed a game high 11 rebounds and added nine points. Washington, who had won the previous 19 meetings between the two schools dating back to the 1989-90 season, had three players in double digits led by Mike Grunst's 20.
The Spartans improve to 5-8 overall and 1-1 in the UAA and the Bears drop to 8-5 and 1-1. Case travels to Chicago tomorrow and will face the University of Chicago Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
