CLEVELAND, OH (January 8, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University junior forward Carson Oren ( South Bend , IN ) led three Spartans players in double digits with a game high 27 points as Case dropped their University Athletic Association opener this afternoon 90-83 to visiting Emory University. The Spartans fall to 3-8 overall and 0-1 in the UAA and the Eagles improve to 8-2, 1-0.
Case shot well from the field in the first half, hitting 13 of 24 shots (54.2%). They also out rebounded Emory 17-15 in the half, but turn the ball over 15 times and trailed 41-36 at the intermission.
The Spartans hung on to the ball in the second half, but shot just 44.4 percent (16-36) and only went 11 of 16 from the line. Case brought the game within five, 84-79 with just under a minute to go, but could not catch the Eagles.
Junior guard Richard Mullen ( Columbus , OH ) had 15 points, going 5-7 from behind the arc on the day and sophomore guard Funso Lafe ( Chesterland , OH ) added 11. The Eagles, who had four players in double digits, were led by Chase Fawsett's team high 23 points and game high 10 rebounds.
The Spartans travel to Thiel College Tuesday night for their last non-conference game of the season.
