WISCONSIN-LA CROSSE 64, CASE 50...
GREENSBORO, NC (December 30, 2004) - A hot-shooting Wisconsin-La Crosse team defeated the Case Western Reserve Spartans 64-50 this afternoon in Greensboro, NC. The Eagles improved to 3-9 behind shooting a scorching 51% from the field while the Spartans (2-5) struggled to hit just 29.7% of their shots.
In a low-scoring first half, the Spartans kept it close trailing by only three at halftime, 22-19. That was as close as Case would get as Wisconsin-La Crosse used a 31-8 run over the first 9:21 of the second half to establish a 26 point lead which became too much for the Spartans to overcome.
The bright spots for Case came off the bench as Richard Mullen (Columbus, OH) tallied a team-high 14 points. Also coming off the bench for the Spartans was freshman center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL) as he grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in addition to scoring 10 points.
The Eagles were led by Chris Ask with 19 points and eight rebounds. Chris Fehrenbach proved to be the difference maker for Wisconsin-La Crosse as he scored all of his 18 points in the second half on 6-6 from three-point range.
Case will get a chance to get right back on the winning streak when they take on Guilford College in a 3:00 p.m. game tomorrow (January 31) in Greensboro, NC.
