CASE 72, GROVE CITY 68 OT ...
CLEVELAND, OH (December 4, 2004) - Case Western Reserve University junior forward Carson Oren ( South Bend , IN ) recorded a double-double this afternoon in a 72-68 overtime win at Grove City . Oren's game high 23 points and 13 rebounds helped Case (2-4) win their second straight and hand Grove City their first loss of the season (4-1).
Both teams shot poorly from the field in the first half, Case 36.7 percent (11-30) and Grove City 38.7 (12-31). Spartan junior guard Richard Mullen ( Columbus , OH ) however was not cold from the field in the first 20 minutes, making 4 of 6 for 12 points. Mullen finished the game with 15 points.
Case actually pulled away in the second half, leading Grove City once by 11, 52-41 with less then 10 minutes left in the game. From there the Wolverines went on to outscore the Spartans 18-7, including two foul shots by Ryan Eller with 32 second left on the clock to tie the game and send it into overtime. Eller finished the game with a team high 16 points.
The two teams battled back and fourth in the overtime which included two ties (65-65 at 2:45 and 67-67 at 2:39). Freshman center Mason Conrad ( Tarpon Springs , FL ) hit a free throw to complete a three-point play with 33 seconds to play to put the Spartans up 70-67. A free throw each from Oren and Chris Hill (The Woodlands, TX) sealed the victory for Case.
Case freshman guard Jeremy Sallee ( Hamilton , OH ) added 16 points while Conrad had a career high 10 points and seven rebounds in 16 minutes work.
Case is off until December 30 when they travel to the Guilford Tournament and face Wisconsin La Crosse at 3:00 p.m.
