MEN'S BASKETBALL—2004

CHICAGO, IL - Case Western Reserve University (2-11, 0-2 UAA) sophomore guard Funso Lafe (Chesterland, OH), a Hawken graduate, scored a team high 21 points tonight as the Spartans fell at the University of Chicago (5-8, 1-1 UAA) 58-54 in their second University Athletic Association contest of the season.

Case, who made 12 of 32 shots from the field in the first half (37.5%), pulled away by seven, 30-23, with 2:48 left in the first half. Chicago (9-27, 33.3%) would then outscore the Spartans eight to one to tie the game 31-31 at the intermission.

The Spartans went up by as many as ten (47-37 at 11:17) in the second half, but allowed the Maroons back in it. Chicago tied the game 50-50 with 6:48 left on the clock and then outscored Case eight to four to hand them their fifth straight loss.

Sophomore guard Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) added 10 points and a team high nine rebounds for the Spartans. Senior forward Scott Fisher (Bloomington, IN) posted games highs in points (22) and rebounds (14) for Chicago.

The Spartans travel to Washington University in St. Louis this Sunday for game two of their UAA double header weekend.
