MEN'S BASKETBALL—2004

CLEVELAND, OH - Case Western Reserve University sophomore guard Funso Lafe (Chesterland, OH) had a game high 28 points as the Spartans (2-10, 0-1 UAA) fell to the Tomcats of Thiel (6-9, 0-0 PAC) in overtime 82-91.

Despite a 45 minute delay due to the cold weather, a hot shooting start provided the Spartans with a 40-32 lead at the half. Funso Lafe had 14 points as Case shot 45.5% (15-33) from the field compared to 31% (13-42) for the Tomcats. The Spartans had the early advantage on the boards as well as they out rebounded Thiel 26-23.

In the second half, Thiel outscored Case 45-37 as they shot 59.4% (19-32) from the floor. The Spartans shot 46.4% (13-28). However, the Tomcats had an 18-15 rebound advantage in the second twenty minutes to force the extra period (score tied 77-77).

In overtime, Thiel's defense took over as they held Case to one field goal and outscored them 14-5 to take home the victory.

Ryan Singleton led the Tomcats in scoring with 14 points. While Mike Banach pulled down 13 rebounds. Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH) had 12 points and 13 rebounds while Carson Oren(South Bend, IN) chipped in 18 points for the Spartans.
