ATLANTA, GA - Case Western Reserve University sophomore forward Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) scored a game high 23 points as the Spartans (2-9, 0-1 UAA) lost their University Athletic Association opener 105-67 on the road to Emory University (6-4, 1-0 UAA).
Case shot just 22.9% (8-35) from the field in the first half as they trailed by 30, 48-18, at the intermission. Emory, who shot 50% (16-32) from the field in the first 20 minutes, hit the boards as well, topping the Spartans 30-16.
The Eagles continued to roll in the second half. They shot 67.6% (25-37) from the field (59.4% for the game) and continued to hit the boards, out rebounding Case 48-32 in the game. The Spartans shot 42.9% (15-35) from the field in the last 20 minutes.
Case sophomore guard Funso Lafe (Chesterland, OH) added 14 points on the day and sophomore center Benton Bommer (Gahanna, OH) grabbed a team high nine rebounds.
Emory had six players in double digits led by junior forward Chase Fawsett's (Orlando, FL) 20 points.
The Spartans host Thiel College this Wednesday night at Horsburgh Gymnasium in the Veale Center at 7:30 p.m.
