MEN'S BASKETBALL—2004

NEW WILMINGTON, PA - Case Western Reserve University (2-8) sophomore guard Funso Lafe (Chesterland, OH), a Hawken graduate, led four Spartans in double digits with 24 points tonight as they fell to Westminster College (4-9) 111-95 on the road.

Westminster sophomore guard Mark DeMonaco (New Castle, PA) scored 37 of his game high 47 points in the first half as the Titans took a demanding 69-48 lead into the intermission. Case out rebounded Westminster 22-17 in the first 20 minutes and shot 46.2% from the field (18-39), but couldn’t match the Titans 60% (21-35).

Turnovers were the name of the game in the second half. The Spartans gave it up 16 times (27 in the game) and Westminster 19 (27 in the game). Both teams shot poorly from the field, Case 37.0% (17-46) and the Titans 35.3% (12-34). The Spartans out rebounded the Titans 54-40 in the game and outscored them 47-42 in the last 20 minutes.

Case sophomore forward Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) added 19 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH) had 15 points and sophomore guard Andrew Impastato (Freehold, NJ) 10.

The Spartans travel to Emory University this Saturday for their University Athletic Association opener.
