Ohio Wesleyan 84, Case 73
CLEVELAND, OH - Case Western Reserve University (2-7, 0-0 UAA) sophomore guard Funso Lafe (Chesterland, OH), a Hawken graduate, scored a team high 24 points (9-13 from the field) as the Spartans fell at home to Ohio Wesleyan University (7-4, 1-1 NCAC) 84-73 tonight at Horsburgh Gymnasium in the Veale Center.
Lafe scored 12 of his 24 in the first half as the Spartans led by five 37-32 at the break. The Bishops out rebounded Case 26 to 19 in the first 20 minutes, but turn the ball over eight times and only shot 34.4% (11-32) from the field. Case connected on 17 of 41 (41.5%).
Ohio Wesleyan dominated the boards in the second half, out rebounding the Spartans 25-12 (51-31 in the game). Case didn't get many second chances and the Bishops didn't need many, shooting 59.5% from the field (22-37) in the last 20 minutes to win there second straight.
Ohio Wesleyan senior center Travis Schwab (Medina, OH), a Medina High graduate, led all scorers with 28 points (11-18 from the field). The Spartans had two other players in double digits. Sophomore forward Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) scored 14 points and freshman guard Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH) added 11.
Case travels to Westminster this Wednesday.
