MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH
Sean McDonnell
Sean McDonnell was named the third men's basketball coach in Case Western Reserve University's history on October 8, 2003. Since his arrival, McDonnell has recruited, developed, and coached numerous players who were awarded All-University Athletic Association honors.
Previously, McDonnell served as the men's basketball coach for three seasons at Hiram College in Hiram, OH. As a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference, McDonnell coached Hiram to two post-season appearances, and he developed two Second Team All-NCAC performers.
Prior to Hiram, McDonnell served as the assistant men's basketball coach at Williams College in Williamstown, MA and at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY. He helped guide Le Moyne to the Division II NCAA Tournament in 1997 while coaching three players who went on to professional careers in Europe, including one All-America honoree.
As an undergraduate at Boston College, McDonnell was a student assistant coach from 1993-1996. As a member of the Eagles' staff, he assisted in the development of six future NBA players and participated in the Division I NCAA Tournament in 1994 and 1996.
Since 1995, McDonnell has directed a number of developmental summer basketball clinics in Greece, South Africa, the Republic of Macedonia, and the Czech Republic. He coached the Central Region's men's basketball team in New York's Empire State Games from 1998-2000. McDonnell also works as a clinician and a lecturer each summer at the prestigious Eastern Invitational Basketball Camp in Trenton, NJ.
McDonnell earned a Master of Science degree in Education from Le Moyne College in 2003 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Boston College in 1996. An active member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, McDonnell is also the director of the Spartan Basketball Camps at Case. McDonnell and his wife Angie were married on September 4, 2005, and they reside in Cleveland Heights.
ASSISTANT MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH
Todd McGuinness
Todd McGuinness was named a full-time assistant coach for the Spartans on August 14, 2006. McGuinness, a Monroeville, PA, native, spent the last two seasons as an assistant basketball coach at Vassar College (Poughkeepsie, NY). He joined the Vassar staff in October of 2004, after three seasons as an assistant coach at Hartwick College (Oneonta, NY).
McGuinness received his bachelor's degree in physical education (K-12) from Bethany College (WV) in 2002 and was a three-year starter and a co-captain of the basketball team his junior and senior seasons. McGuinness was a member of two President's Athletic Conference (PAC) championship teams (2001 & 2002) at Bethany and led the team to consecutive postseason appearances in the ECAC Tournament in 2001, and the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2002. He was a three-year member of the basketball team at Gateway High School, where he was a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette All-Section first-team selection in 1998.
