ALLEGHENY 6, CASE 1...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 25, 2008) - The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision tonight in the Veale Center against the visiting Gators from Allegheny College. The loss puts the Spartans at 1-5 this spring, while the Gators move to 9-5 with the victory.
The Spartans will head to Berea on Mar. 31 to face the Yellow Jackets from Baldwin-Wallace College. Matches are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
Sophomore No. 5 Jennifer Clever (Ashland, OH – pictured) got Case Western Reserve's lone victory of the evening in singles play, as her two set victory (6-3, 6-4) over Allison Elick limited Allegheny's lead to 4-1. With the win, Clever puts her record at 6-3 this year, while Elick falls to 9-3 with the loss.
In perhaps the most exciting singles match of the evening, junior No. 2 Marta Worwag (Cleveland, OH) battled shot for shot with Allegheny's Kristyn Paone, taking it all the way to a tie-breaker. However, Paone would end up claiming a 10-8 victory in the tie-breaker to extend Allegheny's lead and all but seal the win for her team. The loss puts Worwag at 2-3 this season, while Paone moves to 7-7 with the victory.
