CLEVELAND, OH (February 22, 2008) - The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team started its 2008 season on a high-note, as the Spartans claimed an 9-0 victory over Division-I Robert Morris University this evening in the Veale Center.
Sophomore Jennifer Clever (Ashland, OH – pictured) got the Spartans ahead early, as her 6-2, 6-0 victory over Robert Morris' Georgia Barlamas gave Case Western Reserve a 1-0 advantage over the Colonials. Clever and teammate Emily Hoffman (Copley, OH) would win by forfeit in doubles competition.
The team of sophomore Kristen Ko (Cincinnati, OH) and junior Marta Worwag (Cleveland, OH) was victorious in the first doubles competition of the evening, as the two Spartans tallied an 8-5 win over Robert Morris' Kali Delorie and Libby Shaw to extend Case Western Reserve's lead. The freshman pair of Tina Chen (Naperville, IL) and Sin Chu (Columbus, OH) would further extend Case Western Reserve's advantage after claiming an 8-4 victory over Robert Morris' Lara Meier and Gwen Dalphon in doubles competition.
The Spartans will be in action again on March 1 when they face Carnegie Mellon University at Oberlin College. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
