NEW CONCORD, OH (March 26, 2005) - The 2005 season got underway with a quality performance by Case Western Reserve women's outdoor track and field team as they took a third place team finish at the Muskingum Invitational in New Concord, Ohio.
Case didn't claim an individual first place finish, but they more than made up for it with an array of second place finishers. Amy Staub (Oil City, PA) got it going with a second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:54.69 while Esther Erb (Richmond, VA) took second in the 1,500 meter run (5:03.88), just three seconds behind the race winner. In the field events, Cassi Armstrong (Cleveland, OH) was second in the shot put with a toss of 39'-4 1/2" and Becca Spragg (Fowlerville, MI) took third in the pole vault as she cleared a height of 9'-6".
The Spartans' Emily Bruckner (Fairview, NC) had a busy day with a second place in the women's 100 meter dash (13.32), a fourth in the long jump (15'-10 1/2"), and a fifth place in the 200 meter dash in a time of 27.24. Also turning in solid perfomances for Case were Irene Nagle (Kettering, OH) as she finished fourth in the 800 meter run in 2:30.24 and Emily Douville (Palos Heights, IL) who was fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4'-8".
Case will return to competition next Saturday, April 2nd as they travel to the College of Wooster Invitational which will get underay at 11:00 a.m. in Wooster, Ohio.
