BETHANY 11, CASE 6...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 20, 2008) – A three-run first inning was the only lead of the game for the Case Western Reserve softball team, as they were beaten by Bethany College 11-6 in the second game of today’s doubleheader.
The three-run first featured RBI singles by junior second baseman Angel Rice (Brunswick, OH) and freshman shortstop Beth Andrasik (Sagamore Hills, OH). Bethany then scored ten straight runs without an answer. The Spartans scored two runs in the second on RBI doubles by senior center fielder Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH) and junior pitcher Ruthe Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM). The lone Case run in the seventh was scored on a sacrifice fly by Rice.
Four batters had two hits each for the Spartans. Seeds finished the game 2-for-4, Andrasik finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base, sophomore third baseman Chelsae Poelking (Brecksville, OH-pictured) went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, and freshman pitcher Teddi Jacobson (Solon, OH) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Jacobson was the starter and losing pitcher for the Spartans, giving up seven runs (four earned) on six hits and one walk, striking out three in three innings. Freshman Alexis Ferrera (Steubenville, OH) pitcher two and a third innings of relief, and Sagartz pitched one and two-thirds innings of relief.
The softball team will travel to Wooster, Ohio to face the Fighting Scots of the College of Wooster on Tuesday.
