BETHANY 6, CASE 0...

CLEVELAND, OH (April 20, 2008) – The Case Western Reserve softball team was shut out for the third straight game, as they were defeated by Bethany College 6-0 in the first game of today’s doubleheader.
The Spartans had scoring threats in both the fifth and seventh innings. In the fifth, singles by freshman shortstop Beth Andrasik (Sagamore Hills, OH) and freshman Lauren Hartman (Aurora, OH) and a subsequent double steal placed runners on second and third with two outs, but the next batter struck out to end the inning. In the seventh, one-out singles by Andrasik and freshman pitcher Alexis Ferrera (Steubenville, OH-pictured) started a rally, but the Spartans could not cash in. Andrasik finished the game 2-for-3, while senior center fielder Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH) and sophomore third baseman Chelsae Poelking (Brecksville, OH) delivered the Spartans’ other two hits, both doubles.
Junior pitcher Ruthe Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) was the starter and took the loss, giving up six runs (three earned) on nine hits and three walks, striking out seven in five and two-thirds innings of work. Ferrera pitched one and a third perfect innings of relief.
