BLUFFTON 5, CASE 0...

CLEVELAND, OH (April 19, 2008) – Spartan batters only managed four hits off of opposing pitcher Kelley Kenney as they were shut out in the second game of today’s doubleheader by Bluffton University 7-0.
The Spartans had two scoring chances. In the second, junior second baseman Angel Rice (Brunswick, OH-pictured) singled and freshman right fielder Lauren Hartman (Aurora, OH) walked with one out. In the fourth, freshman shortstop Beth Andrasik (Sagamore Hills, OH) led off with a walk, and Rice singled, putting runners at first and second with no out. Both times, they were unable to capitalize. Rice finished the game 2-for-3. Senior Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH), who went 1-for-3 with a walk, and freshman pitcher Teddi Jacobson (Solon, OH), who went 1-for-4, got Case’s other two hits.
Jacobson took the loss, falling to 2-10 on the season. She gave up six runs (five earned) on nine hits and one walk, striking out one in four and a third innings. Freshman Alexis Ferrera (Steubenville, OH) pitched two and two-thirds innings of relief, giving up one earned run on three hits and one walk, striking out one.
The Spartans will host Bethany (W.V.) for a 1:00 doubleheader on Sunday.
