CLEVELAND, OH (April 19, 2008) – Bluffton University pitcher Brooke Babcock threw a 3-hit shutout as the Case Western Reserve softball team was defeated by Bluffton 5-0 in the first game of today’s doubleheader.
A total of four Spartan batters reached base. The three hits were garnered by senior center fielder Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH-pictured), who hit a one-out double in the sixth inning, sophomore third baseman Chelsae Poelking (Brecksville, OH), who poked a first-inning single, and junior second baseman Angel Rice (Brunswick, OH), who hit a fifth-inning single. Senior right fielder Adriane Lewandowski (North Royalton, OH) reached via a walk in the third inning.
Junior pitcher Ruthe Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) was charged with the loss (7-11), giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk, striking out five in five innings. Freshman Alexis Ferrera (Steubenville, OH) pitched two perfect innings of relief.
