CLEVELAND, OH (April 17, 2008) – The Case Western Reserve softball team used a eight-run fourth inning, aided by three errors, to defeat Otterbein College 10-8 and complete the doubleheader sweep.
The key non-error play in the inning was a two-run single by senior right fielder Adriane Lewandowski (North Royalton, OH). Lewandowski finished the game 1-for-3. Three Spartan batters garnered at least three hits: Freshman shortstop Beth Andrasik (Sagamore Hills, OH), who went 3-for-4 with a leadoff home run in the fifth inning, senior center fielder Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH), who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored, and freshman first baseman Anneliese Fetterman (Cupertino, CA), who went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Junior pitcher Ruthe Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM-pictured) picked up the win (7-11) in relief, giving up three earned runs in four innings on three hits and two walks, striking out four. Freshman Alexis Ferrera (Steubenville, OH) pitched a hitless inning for her first collegiate save.
The Spartans (12-20) will next host Bluffton University on Saturday for a 1:00 doubleheader.
