CLEVELAND, OH (March 8, 2008) – The Case Western Reserve University softball team began its southern trip by scoring 12 runs in the first inning en route to a 15-7 victory over Northwestern College in Chain of Lakes Park, Fla.
Case Western Reserve junior pitcher Ruthe Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM-pictured) picked up the win, allowing no hits in the first three innings and in the fifth. Sophomore Chelsae Poelking (Brecksville, OH) led the offense, going two-for-three from the plate with three RBIs and three runs scored.
In game two against Northwestern, freshman pitcher Alexis Ferrera (Steubenville, OH) led the Spartans to a 3-2 victory. Poelking went three-for-three from the plate, including a run scored and freshman Beth Andrasik (Sagamore Hills, OH) stole home on a pass ball in the top of the seventh to win it for Case Western Reserve.
