MOUNT UNION 5, CASE 0 ...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 29, 2007) –Case hung tough against Mount Union, but ended up losing 5-0. The Spartans were only trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when their first two batters, junior Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH), and freshman Chelsea Poelking (Brecksville, OH) , hit singles to put runners on first and second with no outs prompting Mount Union to pull their starting pitcher Katie Harmon and replace her with Lindsey Royer.
Royer gave up a single to junior Jen Bullen (Willoughby, OH) to load the bases with no outs. Royer then proceeded to strike out the next three batters she faced. Mount Union would go on to score a run in the fifth inning, and three more in the sixth for the final margin of victory. Sophomore Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM-pictured) struck out five batters in five and two thirds innings of work.
The Spartans are back in action this Saturday against Denison University .
