CASE 5, HIRAM 1...
HIRAM, OH (April 30, 2006) – The Case Western Reserve University softball team used a ten-hit attack to complete the sweep of Hiram College by a score of 5-1.
Case scored two runs each in the second and third innings. In the second, senior Kristin Courtney (Dayton, OH) had an RBI double and freshman Lauren Smith (Delaware, OH) had an RBI single. In the third, sophomore Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) hit a two-run blast, her seventh home run of the season. Case added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI ground-rule double by Bell , who finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Courtney went 1-for-3, Smith went 1-for-3, freshman Angel Rice (Brunswick, OH) went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and sophomore Jen Bullen (Willoughby, OH) went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored.
Freshman Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) - pictured pitched the complete game, giving up one earned run on four hits and one walk, striking out nine. The nine strikeouts tie her season-high in a seven-inning game.
Case, now 20-24-1, will host Oberlin College tomorrow at 3:30 PM in the final doubleheader of the season. Box
