MOUNT UNION 4, CASE 1...
ALLIANCE, OH (April 24, 2006) – The Case Western Reserve University softball team lost a tough 4-1 decision to Mount Union College in the second game of a doubleheader.
Case's only run scored in the third inning, when sophomore Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH) hit a single and senior Amber Hammell (Parkersburg, WV) - pictured scored on an ensuing throwing error. Seeds, freshman Angel Rice (Brunswick, OH), sophomore Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH), and sophomore Jen Bullen (Willoughby, OH) each had hits for the Spartans. Freshman Catherine Dell (Grosse Ile, MI) drew the only Spartan walk in the seventh.
Mount Union scored two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, countering a good performance by Case freshman pitcher Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) in the other three. In the fourth a couple of mistake pitches led to a two-run home run, and in the fifth an error and a passed ball led to two unearned runs. Sagartz pitched six innings and gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk, striking out five.
Case will travel to the College of Wooster on Wednesday for a 3:30 doubleheader. Box
