NOTRE DAME 5, CASE 2...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 18, 2006) – The Case Western Reserve University softball team lost the second game of the doubleheader to Notre Dame College 5-2.
Case’s two runs were scored on a solo home run by sophomore Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) - pictured in the second inning and an RBI single by sophomore Jen Bullen (Willoughby, OH) in the third inning. The Spartans’ other three hits were a double by freshman Angel Rice (Brunswick, OH) in the third, a single by junior Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH) in the third, and a single by freshman Catherine Dell (Grosse Ile, MI) in the seventh.
All of Notre Dame’s scoring was done in the third inning, Case freshman pitcher Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM), perhaps affected temporarily after being hit by a pitch on her throwing hand the previous inning, gave up five hits (two of which were aided by poor defensive play) and a walk while one official Case error helped the five runs come across. Sagartz pitched seven innings and gave up five runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk, striking out six.
Case will host Baldwin-Wallace College for a doubleheader on Thursday at 3:30 PM.
