DENISON 4, CASE 1...
GRANVILLE, OH (April 13, 2006) – The Case Western Reserve University softball team lost 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader against Denison University.
Case was held to only two hits in the game, and scored their only run in the fourth inning, when junior Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH) - pictured hit a run-scoring double to drive in freshman Angel Rice (Brunswick, OH), who had led off the inning with a walk. Both Casden and Rice finished the game 1-for-2 with a walk. Senior Amber Hammell (Parkersburg, WV) was the only other Spartan to reach base, getting hit by a pitch in the third.
Sophomore Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) started the game and pitched four and a third innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on ten hits and one walk, striking out one. Freshman Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) relieved Bell and pitched one and two-thirds perfect innings, striking out three.
