UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS , OH (April 10, 2006) – The Case Western Reserve University was shut out 1-0 in a pitching duel in the second game of a doubleheader against John Carroll University.
The game was scoreless up until the bottom of the seventh, when John Carroll blooped a two-out single near the left field line with runners on second and third to win the game.
The seventh inning was the only blemish on an otherwise fine pitching performance by Case freshman Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) - pictured. She pitched the complete game, giving up one earned run on six hits and three walks, striking out eight.
The only hit of the game for the Spartans was a leadoff single in the fourth inning by junior Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH).
Case will travel to Denison University on Thursday for a 3:30 doubleheader.
