UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS , OH (April 10, 2006) – The Case Western Reserve University softball team beat John Carroll University 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Most of the scoring was done in the first inning. Case staked a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI singles by sophomore Jen Bullen (Willoughby, OH) - pictured and junior Courtney Geib (Denver, CO). John Carroll answered with their only three runs of the game in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of a Case error that prolonged the inning. The Spartans tied it up in the third on another RBI single by Bullen, and took the lead for good in the fifth on an RBI single by junior Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH). Bullen finished the day 3-for-3 with a double, and Casden went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.
Sophomore Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) pitched the complete game and gave up three unearned runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out three.
