CASE 2, CALVIN 1...
GRAND RAPIDS , MI (April 8, 2006) – Junior Courtney Geib (Denver, CO) - pictured drove in both Case runs and freshman Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) gave up only four hits and no earned runs as the Case Western Reserve University softball team grabbed the second game of a doubleheader against Calvin College 2-1.
Case amassed five walks and two hits against Calvin’s first pitcher, but could not score. They finally broke through against Calvin’s second pitcher. Geib drove in the two runs on singles in the fifth and seventh innings. She ended up 3-for-4 on the day. Also, junior Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH) went 2-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice bunt.
Sagartz pitched the complete game, giving up one unearned run on four hits and no walks, striking out nine.
Case will travel to Albion College tomorrow.
