CASE 5, WESTMINSTER 4...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 2, 2006) – The Case Western Reserve University softball team completed a sweep of Westminster College with a 5-4 come-from-behind victory. The team is now 9-13-1 and has surpassed last year’s victory total.
The Spartans were behind 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh. Senior Amber Hammell (Parkersburg, WV) and sophomore Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH) - pictured led off with a double and a single. Freshman Angel Rice (Brunwick, OH) followed with a run-scoring single. After a walk and a strikeout, sophomore Jen Bullen (Willoughby, OH) drove in Seeds with a single which then was misplayed by the left fielder, allowing Rice to score the winning run.
Seeds went 3-for-4 in the game, including a solo home run in the third inning, her second homer of the day. Bullen went 1-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice fly and two RBIs. Sophomore Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) went 2-for-4.
Freshman Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) pitched the complete game and gave up four earned runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out five.
Case next will host Bethany College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
