OTTERBEIN 3, CASE 2...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 29, 2006) – The Case Western Reserve University softball team lost the first game of a doubleheader to Otterbein College 3-2. The Spartans fell to 6-11-2 on the year while the Cardinals improved to 6-7 overall.
Otterbein jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer by Janelle Jones, and made it 3-0 in the second with a sacrifice fly. Case did not score until the seventh, when they loaded the bases with a walk and two singles. However, only two runs came across, on a single by junior Carrie Casden - pictured (Worthington, OH) and a passed ball. The final out was made with Spartan runners stranded on second and third.
Casden, sophomore Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH), and senior Amber Hammell (Parkersburg, WV) each had two hits on the day, all singles.
Sophomore Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) pitched the entire game, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk, striking out six.
