LAKE ERIE 1, CASE 1...
PAINESVILLE, OH (March 23, 2006) – The Case Western Reserve University softball team tied Lake Erie College 1-1 through eight innings in the second game of a doubleheader. The game was ended due to darkness.
The game was tied at zero through seven innings. Case got a run in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by junior Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH) - pictured, who went 1-for-4 on the day. However, the defense could not hold the one-run lead, as three passed balls in the inning led to the one run by Lake Erie. Freshman Lauren Smith (Delaware, OH) went 2-for-2 with two singles and a walk.
Case freshman pitcher Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) pitched the complete game, going eight innings, giving up one run (none earned) on eight hits and one walk while striking out four.
The Case Western Reserve softball team opens up their brand-new field against Bluffton University on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
