SPARTAN SOFTBALL—2006

The Spartans got their offense in action against Washington starter Susan Gray. Case jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH) - pictured hit a leadoff double. She then scored when Gray committed a throwing error on a grounder by sophomore Adriane Lewandowski (North Royalton, OH). In the third inning, after Washington had made it 3-1, Seeds hit a one-out solo homer. After Lewandowski walked, Washington brought in pitcher Laurel Sagartz, the sister of Case freshman Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM). She only gave up a single to junior Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH) in shutting out Case the rest of the way.

Sophomore pitcher Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) started the game for Case and pitched four-plus innings, giving up seven earned runs on eleven hits and one walk, striking out three. Ruth Sagartz relieved Bell and pitched one inning, giving up three earned runs on three hits and one walk, striking out one.
