ROCHESTER 3, CASE 1...
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL (March 17, 2006) – In the sixth game of the University Athletic Association championships, the Case Western Reserve University softball team lost to the University of Rochester 3-1. Both Case and Rochester had five hits, but Case walked Rochester batters four times and hit one with a pitch.
Case’s big offensive spurt came in the fifth. After sophomore Jen Bullen (Willoughby, OH) had a leadoff single and was picked off first by the Rochester catcher, junior Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) - pictured hit a solo home run. Sophomore Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH) then singled, and junior Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH) drew a two-out walk. However, neither runner managed to be driven in. Seeds finished 1-for-3 with a walk and Casden finished 1-for-2 with a walk.
In the circle, Sophomore Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) started and pitched four and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out four. Freshman Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) relieved and pitched two and one-third innings, giving up no runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two.
