ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL (March 16, 2006) – In the fifth game of the University Athletic Association Championships, the Case Western Reserve University softball lost to number 11th ranked Emory University by a score of 6-0. The Spartans fall to 4-5 overall and 0-5 in the UAA Tournament. Emory meanwhile improved to 17-4 overall and 4-1 in the Championships.
On offense, the Spartans had several scoring chances, but couldn’t come up with clutch hits to plate the runners. Case left a total of seven runners on base for the game. Leading the way were sophomore Lauren Seeds - pictured (Pickerington, OH), who went 2-4 with two singles, and junior Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH), who went 1-1 with a single, a walk, and a sacrifice bunt.
On the mound, sophomore Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) started the game and pitched two innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits and no walks, striking out none. Freshman Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) relieved Bell and pitched four innings giving up one earned run on two hits and one walk, striking out none.
Tomorrow, the Spartans will face the University of Rochester and Brandeis University as the UAA Championships continue.
