COCOA BEACH , FL (March 11, 2006) – In their second game of the 2006 season, the Case Western Reserve University softball team beat previously undefeated WPI 3-0 in Florida.
The game was scoreless until the fifth inning, when Case jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Junior Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) scored on a throwing error, and sophomore Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) - pictured scored on a single by sophomore Jen Bullen (Willoughby, OH), who finished the game 2-2. Case’s other run came in the sixth inning when freshman Lauren Smith (Delaware, OH) scored on a groundout.
Spartan freshman pitcher Ruth Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM) pitched a complete game three-hit shutout, striking out nine and walking two.
