MOUNT UNION 9, CASE 2 ...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 21, 2005) – Mount Union came up with seven runs in the top of the eighth inning to send Case Western Reserve to a 9-2 defeat this afternoon at Tony Brush Park in Little Italy. The Purple Raiders improved to 26-6 with the victory while Case moved to 7-32 overall.
The game looked promising for the Spartans as Case jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Kristin Courtney (Greenville, OH) came to the plate with the bases loaded and drilled a base hit to drive in the only two Spartan runs of the game. Courtney finished game one of the double header a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate with two RBIs and a walk. Mount Union got on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the fourth and then tied it up with a run in the sixth inning.
In extra innings, the Purple Raiders exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning. Six of those seven runs were unearned as Case hurler Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) pitched all eight innings for the Spartans. Bell gave up 11 hits and four walks while striking out two batters and yielding just three earned runs. Bell also went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
