CASE 3, LAKE ERIE 2 & LAKE ERIE 6, CASE 5 ...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 18, 2005) – The Case Western Reserve University softball team snapped a ten game losing streak Monday at home when they defeated Lake Erie College 3-2 in game one of a double header. The Spartans dropped game two 6-5 falling to 7-29 on the season. Case host Bethany College (DH) today at 3:00 p.m.
In game one, both the Spartans (1) and Lake Erie (2) scored in the first inning. Then Case held Lake Erie scoreless for six straight innings while scoring 2 of their own in the third for the victory. Freshman catcher Elisha Bierman (LaGrange, OH) went 1 for 2 with 2 runs batted in to lead the Spartans offensively. Freshman pitcher Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) went the distance, holding Lake Erie to just three hits while striking out three.
In game two, Lake Erie used a five run sixth to top Case despite the Spartans out hitting their opponent 11-7 in the game. Case sophomore shortstop Leah Shook (Poughkeepsie, NY) went 3 for 4 from the plate with a run scored and three knocked in. Senior pitcher Jackie Rutherford (LaBelle, PA), who struck out 3 in 7 innings work, received the loss.
