ALLEGHENY 9, CASE 4 ...
MEADVILLE, PA (April 10, 2005) – Case Western Reserve University shortstop Leah Shook (Poughkeepsie, NY) hit her second home run of the season, but it wasn't enough as Allegheny College defeated the Spartans 9-4 to sweep the double header.
Allegheny surged out to a 6-0 lead after the first two innings. The Gators were led by A. Bodenlos who finished four for four with three runs scored and two RBIs. Case tried to make a comeback with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. A Shook double to left field drove in Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH) and Elisha Bierman (LaGrange, OH). However, Allegheny added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a commanding 9-2 lead.
Case added one run in the fifth and one in the sixth to chip away at the lead, but was unable to come all the way back. Bierman singled in Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH) in the fifth and Shook got her third RBI of the day with a solo home run in the sixth.
Kerri Hunsicker (Wadsworth, OH) started on the mound for the Spartans allowing six runs on seven hits in two innings of work. Jackie Rutherford (LaBelle, PA) came into pitch for Hunsicker and went the rest of the way, yielding three runs on four hits in four innings.
With the double header sweep, Allegheny evened to 9-9 on the year while Case dropped to 6-20.
