BALDWIN WALLACE 3, CASE 2 ...
BEREA, OH (April 8, 2005) – Despite a monster three for four batting performance from Case Western Reserve sophomore shortstop Leah Shook (Poughkeepsie, NY), the Spartans lost 3-2 in game two of the double header with Baldwin Wallace College.
Case started off the scoring when Shook singled in Rachelle Gunselman (Wadsworth, OH) from third base in the top of the first inning. The 1-0 lead didn't last long when the Yellow Jackets tied it up in the bottom-half of the inning on an unearned run.
The Spartans and Yellow Jackets remained tied at 1-1 and for the second straight game, extra innings were needed to decide the outcome. As in game one, Case scored first in the eighth inning to take a one-run lead 2-1. Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH) scored from third base when Baldwin Wallace made an error on an Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) flare to centerfield.
Again, it wasn't enough as Baldwin Wallace won the game when with two outs a single scored Amy Gladieux from second base to end the game 3-2.
Case pitcher Jackie Rutherford (LaBelle, PA) went the distance in the loss as she yielded just one earned run (three unearned) on only five hits with one walk and on strike out. With the double header sweep, Baldwin Wallace improved to 9-9 on the season while Case dropped to 4-18 overall.
Case returns to the field looking for a little better luck tomorrow with a double header at Thiel College in Greenville, PA.
