BALDWIN WALLACE 5, CASE 4 ...
BEREA, OH (April 8, 2005) – In the opening game of a double header with cross-town rival Baldwin Wallace College, the Case Western Reserve softball team lost a heartbreaker 5-4 in eight innings.
Case jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Leah Shook (Poughkeepsie, NY) led off the second inning with her first home run of the season. Baldwin Wallace tied it up with a run in third inning, but the Spartans bounced back in front with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs in the fifth, Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH) reached base on a Yellow Jacket fielding error. A Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH) double moved Seeds to third base when Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) hit a single to drive in her team-leading ninth and tenth RBIs of the season.
The Spartans looked as if they would get their fifth win of the season with a 3-1 lead in the bottom on the seventh inning. Vicki Munnings singled for Baldwin Wallace with one out and scored on a two-out triple by Casey Ward to make the score 3-2. Ward then tied the game up to force extra innings with a single by Jackie White.
In the first extra inning Case went on top 4-3 as Seeds scored her second run of the game on a Shook base hit. It wasn't enough as a two-out two-run walk off home run from the Yellow Jackets Jeanette Brezina sealed the victory for Baldwin Wallace.
Amanda Bell lost the decision for Case as she pitched the entire game giving up five earned runs on seven hits in 7.2 innings of work.
