OTTERBEIN 2, CASE 1...
WESTERVILLE, OH (March 30, 2005) – In the second game of a double header, Otterbein College prevailed over Case Western Reserve 2-1 in a hard fought battle.
Unlike the first game with Otterbein, the Spartans got on the scoreboard first when Kristin Courtney (Greenville, OH) singled in Rachel Moore (Maple Hts., OH) from third base in the top-half of the fourth inning. The lead didn't last long however as the Cardinals were able to manage a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
The game remained tied at one apiece until the Cardinals came to plate in the bottom-half of the seventh inning. The leadoff hitter for Otterbein, Kristi Feasby was hit by Case pitcher Jackie Rutherford (LaBelle, PA). Feasby advanced to second on a base hit and then to third on a wild pitch. With one out, pinch hitter B.J. Thomas singled in Feasby to score the game winning run for the Cardinals.
Rutherford finished the game pitching 6.1 solid innings, yielding just two earned runs on six hits. Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH) led the Spartans at the plate with a two for four performance which included the game's only double.
The loss drops Case to 3-11 in regular season competition while Otterbein improves to 6-4 with the double header sweep of Case. The Case Spartans will be back in action this Friday, April 1 when they travel to Calvin College for a pair of games.
