OTTERBEIN 5, CASE 0...
WESTERVILLE, OH (March 30, 2005) – Case Western Reserve first baseman Carrie Casden (Worthington, OH) had two hits in three at-bats, but it wasn't enough as the Otterbein College Cardinals defeated the Spartans 5-0 in the first game of a double header.
Case freshman pitcher Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) pitched a solid six innings for the Spartans as she gave up just five runs (four earned) on six hits and struck out five batters. Carroll has now struck out 34 batters in 40.1 innings on the season.
The Spartans had a tough time at the plate as they were able to get only five hits in the ballgame. Besides two hits from Casden, the only other Case hits were one each from Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH), Rachelle Gunselman (Wadsworth, OH), and Bell.
Otterbein scored one run in the first and two in the third and fourth innings as they improved to 5-4 on the season. The Cardinals were led by shortstop Beth Rowland who finished two for three at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
