CASE 4, BRANDEIS 2 ...
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL (March 12, 2005) – Case Western Reserve University senior Rachel Moore (Maple Heights, OH) went 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored in leading Case to a 4-2 extra-innings victory over Brandeis University. The win evened the Spartans to 2-2 in the UAA Championship Tournament and 2-6 overall while Brandeis remained winless at 0-4.
The Spartans got out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Kristin Courtney (Greenville, OH) scored on an Elisha Bierman (LaGrange, OH) base hit and Moore reached home on a throwing error as Bierman stole second base. Brandeis was able to come back and tie the game up at two in the sixth inning, forcing extra innings.
Case sealed the victory in the ninth inning when Lauren Seeds (Pickerington, OH), who was 2-4 on the day, singled in Leah Shook (Poughkeepsie, NY) who led off the inning with a double. With two outs, Moore knocked in an insurance run with Adriane Lewandowski (North Royalton, OH) crossing home plate.
Case senior pitcher Jackie Rutherford (LaBelle, PA) pitched six solid innings and allowed just two runs and nine hits. Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) came in for the final three innings and yielded just one hit in earning the victory.
