EMORY 14, CASE 0 ...
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL (March 11, 2005) – Christine O'Brien pitched a two-hit shutout as the Case Western Reserve University softball team fell 14-0 to Emory University in the UAA Championship Tournament. The loss moves Case to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the tournament while Emory remains perfect in the tournament and 12-1 overall. The game only last five innings as Emory used a five-run first, five-run fourth, and four-run fifth inning to seal the 14-0 victory.
Case freshman pitcher Kerry Hunsicker (Wadsworth, OH) couldn't get out of the first inning as she gave up five hits and five runs. Jackie Rutherford (LaBelle, PA) relieved Hunsicker and pitched three innings giving up five hits and five runs with Amanda Bell (Carroll, OH) closing out the game pitching one and one-third innings surrendering five hits and four runs.
Recording the only hits for the Spartans were Rachelle Gunselman (Wadsworth, OH) and Kristin Courtney (Greenville, OH). Emory was led by Jennifer Harrigan who finished the day three for four from the plate with two runs and two RBIs. The Eagles also had four other players with two hits and knocked out 15 total hits in just 30 at-bats.
