CASE 5, ALLEGHENY 4...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 26, 2008) - The Case Western Reserve University men’s tennis team improved to 9-3 on the season with a 5-4 victory over visiting Allegheny College tonight in the Veale Center. The Spartans have won nine-of-ten this spring and six straight.
The last match of the night was the deciding one. Case Western Reserve junior Adam Erickson (Ft. Wayne, IN-pictured) outlasted Zack Kerosky 6-7 (7-2), 6-1 (10-6) at No. 6 singles, breaking a 4-4 match deadlock.
Senior No. 1 Joe Smetona (Medina, OH), currently ranked 18th in the Central Region, picked-up two victories against Allegheny. Smetona and his younger [sophomore] brother John defeated Allegheny’s No. 1 doubles team 8-3 to begin the night and then Joe topped Andrew Zipf 6-4, 6-0 in singles. John also picked up a singles [No. 4] win, 6-0, 6-2 over Ben Hurtuk.
The Spartans have added a match at Kenyon College on March 31 at 4:00 p.m. Kenyon is currently ranked sixth in the country.
